Following the refurbishment of The Miners Arms Carsington, I was approached by Elli Leahy (Owner) to manage the social media channels whilst also managing the bar at the family ran the establishment. From the outset, I created content that highlighted the reopening, creating competitions and daily updates using a combination of Facebook, Instagram posts and Instagram stories; resulting in a combined total of 2000 followers across all platforms. Although this isn’t the highest in a significantly saturated industry, we were experiencing an increase in customer bookings whilst juggling other job duties also.
After expressing my interest in freelance work, the family offered me the opportunity to redesign the pub website, an essential platform that was responsible for the majority of bookings for the business. This provided me with the chance to combine my branding, photography and overall design skills to create a website that focussed primarily on delivering a simple yet effective experience to the consumer, which they could easily navigate throughout the site. Within a year of completion, the website had seen a 738% increase in traffic and Average Session Duration had more than doubled to 5 minutes 22 seconds; with customer feedback praising the simplicity and layout, particularly on the Food Menu tab. Since the initial redesign, the website is updated frequently by myself formulating new pop-up boxes to keep customers updated with important information and directing landing pages to relevant content.
The social media and freelance work at The Miners Arms have allowed me to establish a new businesses voice in a saturated market, producing a respectable following and a consistent flow of bookings due to the content I created for the social channels. This was all achieved whilst balancing other duties within the business and studying at university.
